Population Pyramid

Today in class we talked about population pyramids and how they can tell a lot about a country, continent or the world in general. If a country has a population with a very wide base and quickly thins out as the ages increases then that country is developing and is a pre industrialized phase. If a country has a wide middle then it is developed and is in the industrialized phase. A country like Canada is an example. And lastly, a country with a very wide number from around age 55 on is very developed and is the post revolutionary phase and  the population will decrease as the years and decades go on.

Reviewing Test

Today in class we reviewed the Population and Settlement test that we took on Friday. I got a 93 percent on the test which I am happy with. A few question that tripped me up were about unemployment rate and about doing some easy math and subtracting easy numbers which makes me really mad that I was that careless. Then Mr. Schick had us go on to a website called Population Pyramid and we took a look a countries, their line graph of population history, and much more. I thought that this website was very cool as i was able to see how the population was in the past and will be in the future.

Population test

Today in class I took a test on the topics of population and settlement. I felt like I did pretty good on the test even though I missed yesterday when the class reviewed what was going to be on it. I was able to navigate the CIA World Factbook pretty easily and go through it pretty quickly. That left me a good amount of time to work on the other parts. One question that tripped me up was about the difference between Net Migration Rate and Unemployment Rate. I think that I got the question right regardless but it was still pretty hard. Overall, I think I got an A on the test but I also thought that last time.

Absent

I was absent from today's class

Reacting to last nights homework

Today in class, (while my had was bleeding the whole time lol) we discussed the answers to last nights homework which I completed on the previous blog. We talked about what the answers meant and how it impacts not only us but the whole world. For example, the GDP of countries like Nigeria are severely lower than one of a country like Luxembourg whose has a GDP of over 100,000 dollars which in comparison to Nigeria's approximate 5,000 dollars is really crazy. Also we discussed how the United States doesn't really lead in much anything which does not help submit its call as the greatest country in the world.

CIA World Factbook

1, The population of China is 1,384,688,986 and the population of India is 1,296,834,042 2. The total fertility rate in Japan is 1.42 children born per woman 3. The total death rate in El Salvador is 5.8 deaths per 1,00 people 4. 23-28 percent of the French identify their religion as none. It is not verifiable because the statistic was last collected in the 1800's 5. 82.7 percent of the Mexicans consider themselves as Roman Catholic 6. The GDP of the United States is 59,800 dollars 7. The GDP of Nigeria is 5,900 dollars 8. The GDP of Luxembourg is 105,100 dollars 9. 76.2 percent of people in the United States are internet users 11. 83% of the population in the world have access to electricity 10. Russia has 1,218 airports and the United States has 13,513 airports 12. The infant mortality rate is 5.7 death per 1,000 live births in the United States, Canada is 4.5 13. The total literacy rate in Afghanistan is 38.2 percent, male is 52 percent and female is 52.4 percent 14

Life expectancy, Birth rate and more

Today in class we discussed how population growth and decline is affected for each country based on what kind of state they are in economically. For example, Developing countries mostly in Africa are the leaders for population growth per 1,000 people each year. And very developed countries like Japan, Italy, and Monaco have a very small birthrate. This is because those countries already have their economies established and do not need a hug baby boom to try and boost the country. We then talked about why females live longer than males across the world. And one of the main reasons was males recklessness and also war and how many men die in way compared to females. Especially in developing countries.

Life expectancy and population growth

Today in class we discussed how population growth has changed over time. Way back in the Before Christ era the population did not grow much and it took around 10,000 years for the population to reach one billion. But from then on the population grew in much quicker succession. It took around 100 years for the next billion. The about 30 for the next and now it sits at around every 12 billion years the population of the world increases by a billion. Which for some people that could be a good thing and think that growth is good. But for others like me I think that is too quick and the world cannot handle it and it will eventually be too much.

Time zone test back

Today in class we got our tests back. And I was not very pleased as I got a 74. I was expecting to do a lot better as I am sure a lot of other people were to as the average score in our class was a 75 percent. The questions that really tripped me up were the one's on Relative and Absolute location. Especially the question where the both the longitude and latitude were above 90 degrees. I did not see this and now I realize that a coordinate cannot go above 90 degrees. No one in our class or any other class got that questions which makes me feel a little better about getting it wrong. I hope to do much better on the next test to keep my A in the class.

Map and time zone test

Today in class we took a test on maps and time zones. I feel that I did fairly well on the test but some questions were kind of hard. I studied last night for about 15- 20 minutes and then again this morning. Some of the questions that tripped me up were about what UTC stands for. How far we are in time zones from Greenwich, and about absolute and relative location and which examples are which. Lastly, I played free rice. I played many topics including math, reading and french. I feel very rewarded when I play this as I am actually helping people out who cant always get food when they need it.

Map test practice

Today in class we finished up our time zone debate and I was definitively swayed on the side to keep time zones. It would cause too much confusion to change them all around the world. The we took a practice quiz on what will be on the test tomorrow and I got a 9/10. I now feel confident that I will do well tomorrow. I will study tonight and hopefully do really well on the test. I am going to prepare by making flash cards with key terms to study for. Also I am going to put the terms into quizlet and use the games provided to help me study. I feel that I will do well tomorrow if I study hard and prepare myself the right way for the test.

Time zone debate

Today in class we ha d debate on why time zones should either be abolished or keep the same. Each person discussed and made points for what they believed. I personally was in the middle but I was convinced over to why we should keep time zones. It would not make much sense to change something that works perfectly fine now. Also, changing time zones would cause confusion all around the world for a good amount of time while everyone is trying to get used to the new time. Overall, I believe that time zones should keep the same and they are because if they are changed it was cause more confusion than good in the world.

Time zones research

Today in class we discussed and researched the meaning of time zones and if they should abolished, or kept the same. Based on my point of view at this time I have no preference and I am looking forward to seeing how the other groups try to persuade me onto their. side. I have no preference because I feel like the world has been living for too long world just abolish time zones. But i also believe that they are kinda pointless and if removed, over time time would become much easier to keep track of. We researched both sides in preparation for our class debate on Friday in which we will try to decide who is right.

North Central and South American Quiz

Today in class we took the quiz on the countries of North, Central, and South America. I got a 100 percent and i felt very prepared for the quiz as i have been learning countries ever since i was very little. I used the quiz game provided and i feel like that also helped me to do better. After that we talked about time zones which went into a very deep conversation on why we have them and use them. We looked at how many there and how some countries are split up when it comes to time zones. We even saw how some countries flip by half an hour instead of an hour which to me makes no sense.
