Life expectancy and population growth

Today in class we discussed how population growth has changed over time. Way back in the Before Christ era the population did not grow much and it took around 10,000 years for the population to reach one billion. But from then on the population grew in much quicker succession. It took around 100 years for the next billion. The about 30 for the next and now it sits at around every 12 billion years the population of the world increases by a billion. Which for some people that could be a good thing and think that growth is good. But for others like me I think that is too quick and the world cannot handle it and it will eventually be too much.
