assignment #8 3/30/20

I have read, analyzed, and comprehended what Mr. Schick has written on his blog for today's assignment. I feel like I have done a good job of not breaking the academic honor code and keeping my integrity throughout this stay at home period. Now that Governor Larry Hogan has just issued  stay-home directive for the state of Maryland I have finally come to realize that this may be our new reality for a good bit of time. I have used this time appreciate everything that I have in life. This time also makes me realize that a lot of other things in the world such as spots, movies, and tv shows are not necessary in life and are only secondary priorities. I also believe that I have not given into the temptation to lack off of my work and not do it well. I wake every morning and get y work every day before 4 o clock which allows me to have free time after my work just like it would be after a school day and I would have baseball practice. In conclusion, I believe I have taken this break wel

assignment #7 3/26/20

The plague that struck Athens during the Peloponnesian war can be compared very similarly to the coronavirus outbreak that is occurring today. The plague came out of nowhere and took a turn for the worst causing Athens to have shutdown their city and take half -hearted attempts to continue fighting the war. And today the world is pretty much shutdown and society and economic worth is quickly declining. Another similarity between the two is that both of the outbreaks effected people of great fame. The plague outbreak in Athens caused many of their leaders to receive the sickness. And while today our leaders do not have it. many notable figures have received such as NBA athletes and NFL coaches. When that happens the significance of the virus really hits you, that anyone could harmed by it.

assignment #5 3/23/20

Alexander the Great and Bucephalus had a very interesting relationship that can most likely connect to people who own horses. I do not own a horse myself but I have been up close with them and know how much of a spectacular animal they really are. When Alexander the great was 12 years old his dad offered a horse (being Bucephalus) from a man. Alexander the Great's dads name was king Philip II of Macedonia. he paid 13 talents for the horse which at the time was a very large amount of money. Alexander's father was not very interested in the horse so he let alexander have it for himself. alexander promised to keep for it and pay for its needs over time. Bucephalus reportedly died after 30 years of life which equates to 180 horse years. Which is an extremely long amount of time for a horse. He is also said to be more powerful than Pegasus. Bucephalus truly was an incredible animal and his relationship with alexander the great helped changed history forever.

assignment #4 3/20/20

As the first week of cyber school winds down I have many opinions that sway towards it being a good thing and many opinions toward it being a bad thing. One of my opinions for it being a bad thing is that I miss seeing my friends everyday and being able to talk and socialize with them. A positive opinion that I have about it is that you have more free time throughout the day to be able to get more stuff done, which when school is in normal hours were able to have as much free time. I think online school is very interesting with the way that it works and I would not mind it going forward for the rest of the year.

assignment #3 3/18/20

After the war was over the city-state of Athens was in a traumatic state after the war had taken a hit because of the plague and the loss of resources that we used in the war. During this time many philosophers became relevant trying to ask and answer questions about the society that they lived in.  Most of them believed in two main ideals; people can understand laws through logic/reasoning, and the universe is put together in a orderly fashion. The sophists which was a group of Philosophers unexamined values about the people of Athens beliefs. One man named Protagoras questioned if the Greek gods existed at all which at the time was disgraceful to the culture as the people of Greek thought that the Greek gods were in control of everything.

assignment #2 mar. 17

The Spartans invaded Athens looking to take over farmland. During the battle many fields and crops were destroyed. A year after the war had started the grainboats that had brought over the soldiers for war was now causing plague to run ramped throughout the battlefields. The Plague took full control of the human body, stated a Greek man who lived through those years. this caused Athens to rethink their plan and how they were going to defend themselves. Pericles then caught the plague himself. After 6 months of suffering through the illness, Pericles died.

Assignment #1 Mar. 16

Pericles was a wise statesmen who, during it's Golden age led Athens. He led for 32 years and he had three goals: to strengthen the Athenian democracy, to strengthen the Athenian Empire and to give Athens all the glory it deserved. Direct democracy is a form of government where the citizens of the given area have direct power to speak their thoughts and ideas on topics. They are able to vote for issues and leaders. as well as how to run the city-state, in this case Athens. the Delian league was a union of Greek city-states that was mainly under rule of Athens. Their main goal was to avoid being taken over and ruled by the Persian Empire. This is one of the few times that the Greek city-states overcame their differences and worked together.

Mr.schick gave us a long lecture about how to stay safe and what he would do if he could decide on to close schools or not. And he was right schools are closed for 2 weeks effective monday the 16th. Sub day2

Today again in class we had a sub again today. Mr. Siler was my sub today who is my baseball coach. Today in class, we watched part 2 of the ancient greece series. Today focused on Cleithesenis and Xerxes. The video also talked about the war of Persia and Athens where Athens made a very unexpected win using their trireme which was like a missile that could crash into other boats and cause they to sink and hurt other passengers or soldiers aboard the other boats which could help swing the outcome of the battle.

Sub

Today in class we had a sub we had a sub who was Dr. Gallen which was a pleasant surprise since I Love Dr. Gallen as a teacher. Mr. Schick had us watch a 54 minute and I some other work to do si I finished what I had left to finish watching during my off mod. the video was pretty interesting and I though that it was a good Segway into learning more about ancient Greece during this time period and I look forward to learning more.

Pop Quiz and review

Today in class Mr. Schick had David review the powerpoint with us which was about 10 or so slides. Then Mr. Schick gave us a pop quiz that was 10 multiple choice questions worth 20 points. I got 8 questions right which means that I got a 18/20 which should not really move my grade up or down too much. Today was a pretty east class overall we did not do too much and hd a lot of free time.

Socrates overview

Today in class Mr. Schick showed us an overview powerpoint about Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. mr. Schick re-explained to us Socrates and what his teachings were and how he died. He then went on to Plato who continued Socrates teachings and went to write the Republic. The lastly, we got to Aristotle, Mr. Schick mentioned that we made the idea for the internet then we got on a big rant about fake news and the measals virus somehow.

Discussing Athens, Sparta, Gods, and Godess'

Today in class Mr. Schick continued with the "Greece is the word" powerpoint and we went over multiple slides. We briefly went over the Greek gods and goddess and what their role was. He said that there wouldn't be much of them on the test since they weren't actually real. We then spent the rest of the time discussing Athens, Sparta, as well as the Persian Empire and all of their battle tactics. Such as the Phalanx, and the very large that had a battering ram and could a few hundred at a time easily. this does interest me a good bit more than the other stuff that we have been talking about recently because I tend to enjoy and have a interest in past wars and battles especially in the ancient times.

last notes on ancient greece

today in class while david was taking his test. Mr. Schick hd us look at the notes on ancient greek gods and goddesses. We then went over our tests together. I was very pleased wit my grade on the test which was a 95. I studied a good bit of time for the test so I feel that directly correlates with the grade that I received. Most of the class got grades on the test so i shouldnt feel too great about my self.
